Passing Through (2013-2019)

The journey into my family’s Holocaust history affected me and my artwork deeply, as did other losses at the time. My photographic themes turned to impermanence and the fragility of life.

To express those feelings, I once again searched for an alchemy of light, reflection, and body, building on what I had learned in the past. Some of the images are ghostlike, a tree reflected on the water’s surface with a body submerged beneath. The interplay of light causes some of the body to disappear, existing between life and death.

Cloud I, 2015

In Cloud I, 2015, everything visible is a reflection of the tree branches and the luminous sky above as a storm approaches…except for the body moving ever so gently beneath the water surface. They fuse together to make this spiritual reckoning with our life's journey on our planet.
